Prefinished strips and planks receive finishing treatments in the factory, which simplifies installation. The solid wood boards are nailed to a wood subfloor. The floor can be walked on as soon as the installers are done. Typically, prefinished boards are backed by a longer finish warranty than unfinished boards since the sealers used by factories are better than those used by installers. While a floor that is finished on-site has a flush look, a floor that is completed with prefinished boards has a beveled look.
Engineered hardwood has multiple layers, giving it a different construction than solid hardwood. A layer of hardwood is situated above several layers of high-quality plywood. The boards tolerate moisture, and therefore, they can be installed in a basement over concrete. Engineered wood strips and planks do not usually need to be nailed to a subfloor. Typically, they fit together in click and lock style so that the floor floats over the subfloor. Like solid wood, this type of flooring can be sanded down and refinished when it begins to look worn.A.W. Bergey & Sons Inc.
